Switched Hosting Companies

Posted by on 09 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: Stories

I went through the pain of switching hosting companies for www.pitchadeuce.com (and a few other websites).  It isn’t terribly difficult, but it does take some time.  The new hosting site claims to have 99.9% uptime.  That is significantly better than the free site that was hosting www.pitchadeuce.com which was batting about 13% uptime it seemed.

As backwards as it sounds, you can get a better deal from the hosting company when you call their customer service vs. just signing up online.  They were very friendly and helpful through the process.  However, there was one semi-complication.

I was talking to “Chris, from Seattle” at the hosting company.  He said it would be much easier if he registered the domains I wanted to migrate whilst we were on the phone vs. me setting them up online.  That sounded like a good idea as I told him I wanted to setup mcinerney.biz.  It got a little more difficult as I told him I also wanted sfrc.biz setup.  And then I was stuck.  There were two more domains to move and I didn’t want to say either one.  “And the third?” Chris asked.  “The third is PI…TC…HA….DE…UC….E dot com.”  Chris tried to spell it back to me and had it incorrect (probably because I was laughing through have of it).  Again I said, “PI…TC…HA….DE…UC….E dot com.”  Chris tried to repeat it phonetically, “p-p-piiiittch-a-deuce.com.”  Then Chris started laughing, “pitach-a-deuce.com…..that’s unique.  And funny.”

After the laughing stopped, he asked for the fourth domain.  Again I answered, “LA….RG….EC….AN…OES dot com.”  And again Chris started laughing.  Such is life registerig domain names I guess.

On a positive note, we should have a more stable website.
