Week #9 – Recap

30 Dec 2008 | : Recap

Life in fantasy sports is not always fair.  After losing with 220 one week and 224 the next week, Fore! gets the high total for Week #9 with 216.  Congratulations Fore!  Well overdue.  Fore! didn’t have a starter with less than 32 fantasy points.  You will win most weeks if that happens.

The game of the week was clearly Captain Mo vs. Royz Boyz.  Phoenix didn’t play until Monday night.  At 5pm Monday, Royz Boyz must have been feeling good.  They only needed four fantasy points from Steve Nash.  Unfortunately for Royz Boyz, after nine minutes, and two fantasy points, Steve Nash headed to the locker room with back spasms and did not return.  Steve Nash, “pitched a deuce,” if you will.  If it is any consolation, Captain Mo only had six players log a fantasy point this week (Corey Magette / Mehmet Okur scored as many points as a dead man…combined).

With a 12 (potentially 13 man roster) it is hard to get in a situation where you simply can’t play eight healthy players.  However, DaLoot was barely able to put that together this week.  Injured and unable to play were TJ Ford, Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy, all on the Pacers, also on the shelf were Mrs. Carmela Anthony and Paul Milsap.

It is hard to believe Golden State couldn’t find a place for Al Harrington, a 6’9” guy who is averaging 22+ ppg, 6+ rpg.  He is chucking 7.2 three’s up per game.  That is brilliant for a fantasy owner.

The standings have some interesting numbers.  Captain Mo has the third lowest point total for the year, but finds himself tied for second place in the W/L columns.  Captain Mo has scored 200+ twice, DaLoot has only broken the 200 point mark once, Fore! has scored 200+ five times.  Captain Mo has six wins.  DaLoot has four wins, Fore! has three wins.  The Rokers have the exact same point total through nine weeks as Fore!.  The Rokers have only cracked 200 once.  Fantasy sports is simply not fair.

Dirty Sanchez has the most 200+ weeks with seven.

David Copperfield is averaging 202 fantasy points per week, he had 127 vs. the Average this week.  It certainly didn’t help that Caron Butler and Zach Randolph equaled a dead man, combined.

Danny Granger’s consistent year continues…last five fantasy games?  45, 11, 55, 0, 39.  Just a model of consistency.

Only in the NBA:

Stephen “Me So Crazy” Jackson has said he would welcome Baron “The Sword” Davis back to Golden State.  It sounds like BD is wanting to go back to the Warriors since life in LA doesn’t seem to be what he had hoped.  Baron Davis is shooting 36% for the year.  29% from three (and he chucks 6+ per game).

As always, you can view all of the scores by clicking Week 09 on the right or clicking here.

Last week there were 16 players with 40+ and seven with 50+.  This week there are nine players with 40+ and only one with 50+.

Week #8 Recap – Unfair

29 Dec 2008 | : Recap

I’ll make recap short as it is over a week old.  Simply put, the internet service in Esko, MN is not exactly “cutting edge.”

Congrats to Dirty Sanchez bouncing back from a loss to win high point total of the week.

The Fantasy Hoops season has not been kind to Fore!.  They lost with a total of 220.  This is after losing last week with a total of 224.  Simply unfair.  Especially unfair considering DaLoot found the slow fat kid to beat up (The Fur) 176.5 – 110.5.  Royz Boyz also had bad luck losing when scoring 215+ to Dirty Sanchez 249 – 215.5.

Dwayne Wade is playing really well.  This isn’t news to anyone I’m sure.  But he is now knocking down jumpshots.  Scary.  I just saw that Amare Stoudemire spells his name “Amar’e Stoudemire.”  Is this new?

Danny Granger’s last four fantasy games?  45, 11, 55, 0…Just a model of consistency.

Week #7 Recap – Life in Fantasy Sports

18 Dec 2008 | : Recap

As David Copperfield said, “Only in Fantasy Basketball can you lose with 224 (Fore!) and win with 175 (Captain Mo).”

Congrats to Royz Boyz for high score of the week with 249.5.  That is a very impressive total.  Royz Boyz did not have a starter under 31 fantasy points.  He also had two starters with 53+ (Dirk Diggler with 60!).

The game of the week was The Average squeaking by Dirty Sanchez 198.7 – 197.  I guess Dirty Sanchez can thank Royz Boyz, Fore! and David Copperfield, who all scored 224 or more.

Notes:

·        Stephen Jackson says his wrist is hurt.  The Golden State trainers say it’s fine.  Me So Crazy said he’ll have to figure it out on his own because the trainers don’t know what they are doing.  As AT said, he is either truly hurt or missing shots on purpose.  He averaged 21+ ppg shooting 40% in October and November.  In December Me So Crazy is shooting 32% and scoring 13 ppg.

·        Derrick Rose is fun to watch.  He can get to the rim against anyone.

·        The Celtics are good.  24-2 is impressive.  Cleveland and the LA Lakers are good too.

·        The Wolves, Clippers, Wizards and Thunder are really bad.

·        Devin Harris is 6th in the NBA in scoring.  Danny Granger is 5th.

·        Kevin Durant is shooting 48% from three.  Matt Bonner is shooting 47%.

·        Chris Paul leads the league in double-doubles – that is impressive considering they are point/assist double-doubles.

·        On ESPN you can sort stats by positions, rookies, internationals, etc.  I just figured out that Ben Gordon was from England.

·        OJ Mayo is averaging 20.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 2.7apg and 1.16spg.  Kevin Love and Mike Miller combined are averaging 19.4ppg, 14.1rpg, 5apg and 0.6spg.

Personal vent for Week #7…

Shaquille O’Neal became the first player this season to log a “DNP – Dead relative.”  The worst part is that I knew there was a chance.  But his grandma died on Monday.  He missed Wednesday’s game because of it.  I’m assuming Shaq has access to transportation to get him where he needs to go.  Tuesday Shaq had 47 fantasy points.  Friday he gets the “DNP – Dead relative.”  He came back this past Monday to get 39 fantasy points.  The worst part is that when I submitted my lineup I mentioned that I felt like I should play Murphy instead of Shaq.  Murphy ended up with 25 fantasy points (enough for me to beat Captain Mo).  Vince Carter had 33 fantasy points on Wednesday night and followed that up with an 0-13 shooting night on his way to 10 fantasy points when it counted on Friday night.  In typical Vincerod fashion he rebounded on Saturday evening with 51 fantasy points.  Vincerod shot 48% in November and is shooting 38% in December.  I can’t complain too much about Mrs. Carmela Anthony’s 45 fantasy points on Friday, except to say he did have 62 fantasy points in the previous game.  Manu Ginobli had 36 fantasy points on Wednesday night…20 when it counted on Friday.  Hedon’t Turkoglu?  31 fantasy points Wednesday night…24 on Friday.  Luol Deng?  29 on Wednesday, 24 on Friday.  – All of this said, I was given a gift by having Corey Maggette play like a dead man.  I didn’t deserve to win.

Al Jefferson – 45

Week #6 Recap – Separation apparent

09 Dec 2008 | : Recap

Week #6 may go down as the week we officially saw separation between teams.  36DD, Dirty Sanchez and David Copperfield are clearly the best teams.  Captain Mo and the Rokers need some scheduling help to make a run.  Royz Boyz, DaLoot, The Fur and Fore! are in for a long season.  First place 36DD has almost 100 more total points this season than David Copperfield who is in second place.

Congratulations again to 36DD for the high total of the week (the first repeat winner) with 245.  It definitely helps when two starters score 50+.  Yao Ming and Dwayne Wade each had 54 fantasy points this week.  Hedon’t Turkoglu had 22…again!

Fore! had a full healthy squad for the first time this season.  Kevin Durant has a nice stretch of games going.  Too bad his 59 fantasy points on Monday night didn’t count.  The bad news for Fore! is that Michael Beasley is looking like the fifth or sixth best rookie this year.  He has had some good games this year and some very “TJ Ford” type games this year.

The scheduling gods did Royz Boyz a favor this week.  Royz Boyz would have only beat two teams this week.  They battled and fought their way to a 165.5 – 148.0 win over The Fur.  Dirty Sanchez lost with a 201.0 total.  Fantasy sports are not always fair.

Interesting stat: In 19 games this season, Kobe Bryant has scored 30 or more points three times.  In 16 games, Devin Harris has scored 30 or more points six times.

As always, you can view all of the scores by clicking Week 06 on the right or clicking here.

Studs:

Every player in a lineup scored – Not a single dead man this week.

Dwayne Wade – 54 (Note: This is becoming a pattern)

Yao Ming – 54

Dwight Howard – 50 (Note: This is becoming a pattern too)

Amare Stoudemire – 44

Caron Butler – 42

Chris Paul – 40

·        There were only three players who scored in the 40’s…that is unusual

Duds:

Michael Beasley – 9 (you need more than 20 for a starter)

Kevin Martin – 11

Danny Grainger – 11

Gerald Wallace – 19

Marquis Daniels – 8

Brad Miller – 6

Week #5 Recap – 60+ Fantasy points

01 Dec 2008 | : Recap

Over the course of the draft weekend we had discussed how high of an individual score do we see each week.  There was debate back and forth on how many 60+ point weeks we see.  The thought was they don’t happen very often.  This discussion is what lead to the “Individual Highs” page.  In Week #5 we saw our first 60+ point total of the season (at least for games that count).  And we didn’t see it once, we saw it TWICE.  David Lee went off for 37 points, 21 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and a block, for 64…make that 32 since he isn’t good enough to start for The Fur.  If someone said David Lee was going to go for 21-2-3-1, The Fur would have taken it.  But he went for 21-2-3-1-37!  This is a guy averaging 26 fantasy points.  If he scores 34 instead of 64, The Fur loses to the Rokers.   But in the world of Fantasy Hoops, this is life.  One could make the argument that Amare Stoudemire should have scored more than 24 fantasy points for The Fur as well.  Dwight Howard also went for 60, with totals of 32 points, 21 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks.  He is a man among boys out there.

To continue the pity party for DaLoot, he didn’t go up against the individual high of the week (64 by David Lee), but he did go against Dwight Howard and his 60 fantasy points for Dirty Sanchez who also had the league high for the week.  Congratulations to Dirty Sanchez and their 234.  When I was looking at the matchups for the week I was thinking, if I can just get Vincerod Carter to get just over HALF of what Dwight Howard has, I’ll be in good shape.

Zach-O Randolph has found a home in LA quickly scoring 43 fantasy points on the bench for David Copperfield.

Interesting stat: In 15 games this season, Kobe Bryant has scored 30 or more points twice.  He has also scored less than 20 twice.
